Mel Gibson is on a mission to recreate another historic blockbuster of a battle. He has revealed plans to film a movie about the Viking invasion of England and Scotland. He even plans to work in some Norse, the ancient tongue of Vikings, that will be spelled out for 21st-century viewers in subtitles.
Gibson said: “I think it’s going to be [in] English – the English that would have been spoken back then – and Old Norse. Whatever the ninth century had to offer, I’m going to give you real.”
Gibson has made Braveheart, Apocalypto and The Passion of the Christ, all big movies with big ambitions.
He said: “The very first idea I ever had about making a film was when I was 16 years old and I wanted to make a Viking movie. And I wanted to make it in Old Norse, which I was studying at the time. That was the first big, epic, wacky idea I ever had. I want a Viking to scare you. I don’t want a Viking to say, ‘I’m going to die with a sword in my hand’. I want to see somebody who I have never seen before speaking low, guttural German who scares the living – out of me coming up to my house.”
The controversial director, who copped flak for supposed historical inaccuracies in Braveheart, said: “Some people wanted me to feel guilty about that. You know, ‘you have messed up history.’ There is very little history about the man [William Wallace]. There is some, but you have to make up the bits in between because there wasn’t somebody following him around writing. He did exist and he did have an impact.”

Mel Gibson’s girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva has revealed that she would like to marry the actor one day.
The Russian singer-songwriter, 39, recently gave birth to their first child together, daughter Lucia, who is also Mel’s eighth child.
In the past, she has said that they have no plans to marry, but speaking before the birth, she said that she would love to marry the Braveheart star at some point in the future, adding, “But right now we’re just so happy to be having this child together.”
She also praised Gibson’s parenting skills, saying: “Mel is fantastic with kids. He’s got seven of his own already, so he understands the dynamics of parenthood very well.”
She added: “He’s a big kid himself, really – a real practical joker. We laugh so much.”

Mel Gibson is off the hook for an accused assault on a photographer at the opening of a Hollywood nightclub on July 29, according to a police source.
Gibson refused to co-operate with authorities, said the source, who added that the star “won’t let us interview him”.
But the Los Angeles Police Department has dropped the case. The photographer in the incident had filed a battery complaint with police.
The police source told RadarOnline.com: “I went to the nightclub that night [July 29] and talked to many witnesses, who refuted all statements made by the alleged victim. The victims never saw an altercation by the two and never saw Mel allegedly rip the man’s T-shirt.
“From my point of view and extensive investigation it would be physically impossible for both men to touch each other.”
The LAPD has now turned the case over to the Los Angeles City District Attorney’s office. The official said the case “will be rejected for lack of evidence” at the DA’s office.

Hollywood actor Mel Gibson has revealed his girlfriend is pregnant.
The Lethal Weapon star confirmed that Oksana Grigorieva is expecting his baby less than a month after they went public with their romance.
Gibson, who recently split from wife Robyn, made the shocking announcement during an appearance on a US chat show.
He told chat show host Jay Leno that the couple are expecting a baby – and jokingly called himself Octo-Mel.
This will be the eighth child from Gibson, who has seven kids with Robyn, while this will be the second child for Oksana who also has a son with former 007 star Timothy Dalton.
Gibson’s publicist Alan Nierob said the actor confirmed that 39-year-old Oksana is pregnant during a taping of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
