Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have called time on their five-year relationship – and announced the split on Twitter.
The couple used the social networking website to tell the world they were going their separate ways and underlined that the split was amicable.
“Jenny and I have just ended our 5yr relationship. I’m grateful 4 the many blessings we’ve shared and I wish her the very best! S’okay!” Carrey wrote.
McCarthy added: “I’m so grateful for the years Jim and I had together. I will stay committed to [Jim's daughter] Jane and will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart.”
Their publicists also confirmed the news, with McCarthy’s rep adding that the relationship had ended “mutually and amicable”.
Carrey, 48, and McCarthy, 37, began dating in December 2005 but did not make their romance public until six months later.
In April 2008 McCarthy revealed they were living together but said they had no plans to marry and did not need a “piece of paper” as proof of their love.

Carrey has been married twice before – first to former actress Melissa Womer with whom he has a 22-year-old daughter Jane, and then to Dumb And Dumber co-star Lauren Holly.
The actor then dated actress Renee Zellweger, after meeting her on the set of Me, Myself & Irene, but their relationship ended in a broken engagement in December 2000.
McCarthy was previously married to actor and director John Mallory Asher, with whom she has a seven-year-old autistic son, Evan.

With ratings bottoming out, Jon & Kate Plus Eight has done a double take and cut back on the role of Jon.
TLC announced the new reality family show will be titled Kate Plus 8, reflecting the focus on Kate and the kids and the life of a single mother.
Kate Gosselin, meanwhile, reportedly said on her Facebook page that Jon & Kate Plus Eight might not be renewed for a sixth season due to its ratings drop. “With ratings falling, this might be the last season of Jon & Kate Plus 8. I’m not sure yet,” she was reported posting.
The shift follows a hiatus sparked by the couple’s bitter divorce filing. The show’s makers were said to be refiguring the storyline to show a co-parenting theme. But ratings have plunged.
The network in a statement said: “The program will continue to capture the incredible lives of the eight Gosselin children and their family, but will now include a deeper focus on Kate’s role in the family and her journey as a single mother building the next chapter in her life. TLC will continue its exclusive relationship with Jon Gosselin and he will continue to appear on the show, but on a less regular basis.”
Eileen O’Neill, TLC president and general manager, stated: “Given the recent changes in the family dynamics, it only makes sense for us to refresh and recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family. The family has evolved and we are attempting to evolve with it.”
Hot couple Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli have called it quits once again, according to reports.
The on-again off-again pairing have recently been seen apart and this time the split may be for good.
“They’re taking time off for the time being, they’ve split,” a source told People.com.
“It could just end up as a break but for now they’re doing their own thing.”
According to a Refaeli source, the model’s desire to get serious may have caused the actor to have doubts about their relationship.
“She wanted to move faster than he did, she wanted to move in together,” the source reportedly said. “So he broke it off.”
Last weekend the 23-year-old swimsuit model was seen walking a red carpet event in Hollywood on her own and refused to talk about DiCaprio.
Meanwhile, the Titanic star was seen at nightclub Avenue in New York that same night – reportedly getting close to another woman.
“He was standing at the bar in front of everyone talking to a girl the entire night – and it wasn’t Bar,” said one onlooker.
“It was in no way behavior for a guy who has a serious girlfriend.”
