British actors Colin Firth and Hugh Grant have been named among the most inspirational figures in their 50s. According to a survey conducted by High50.com, the pair, both 50, were ranked in second and third places on the list of leading fifty-somethings. Editor Tim Willis said: “Being 50 isn’t about resting on your laurels, in our eyes. “It’s about moving forward, trying something new, adding to your talents and knowledge base.” The website drew up a shortlist, then users voted. Top place went to Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the worldwide web, with designer turned film-maker Tom Ford coming in fourth and musician Nick Cave finishing fifth in the all-male top five. Sex And The City actress Kim Cattrall, artist Grayson Perry, actress Tilda Swinton, journalist Tina Brown, and designer Cath Kidston, made up the rest of the top 10.
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is to be honoured with the Trevor Project’s Hero Award for all his work helping the suicide prevention organisation. The actor will be given the prize for raising awareness of the non-profit group dedicated to supporting gay, lesbian, transgendered and bisexual youths. The 21-year-old told The Associated Press:”It’s fantastic. The fact that they think of what I’ve done by promoting awareness of the Trevor Project itself and the issues that it works to promote and help is a great honour. “The people that are doing the heroic things are the people answering phones 24 hours a day in the Trevor call centres. I think that out of everything that I have done so far in my career, I think this is absolutely one of the most important, if not the most important, thing that I’m associated with.” Daniel will collect his award at a ceremony in New York in June this year.
Here is a clip of the brothers referring to themselves as ’slime gods’ :
Nick, Joe and Kevin got majorly slimed on stage at the 2009 Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday night (March 28) in Los Angeles.
After the award show, where they won one of the traditional orange blimps for Fave Music Group, they joined their friends Honor Society on stage at the House of Blues.
Usher’s wife, Tameka Foster, is in a clinic in Brazil suffering from an injury that arose from complications from plastic surgery.
Usher had been scheduled to perform at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party last night, but had to cancel so he could fly to Brazil to be with his wife. Access Hollywood is reporting that a neurosurgeon from Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles is enroute to South America to treat Tameka.
Sounds serious as neurosurgeons treat nerve damage. I’m wondering why she would fly over 12k miles away to have a procedure done when she has a new baby? Couldn’t whatever it was she needed done have been done in the US?
Record of the year nominee, MIA has revealed on her Myspace page that her baby is due on February 8th, same night as the Grammys. In a post entitled ‘Baby + Grammy’ the singer writes:
“IS DUE THE SAME DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, so either way i figured ill win.”
She goes on to say that if she wins, she will ‘never diss the Grammy’s’ ever again.
According to her post, she is currently “in the studio on the grind”.
She has been hailed by critics since her debut in 2005, her spicy lyrics that speak out against corrupt political systems and talk of revolution and violence had until recently, ensured her a place on the fringe of music’s mainstream.
Her song “Paper Planes,” an incendiary song about the frustrations of immigrants, became a hit after it was used in the summer stoner comedy Pineapple Express, and now, M.I.A. has gone from underground artist to commercial success. She now has a spot on the “It” list thanks to the Recording Academy nominating “Paper Planes” for record of the year.
But in a recent interview, the British-born, Sri Lankan-reared rapper admits that it has taken time to get used to her new position in pop. She says:
“I came out on some sort of political edge, and I was inspired by the politics that were going on at the time.”
“I never thought it would get accepted and I was gonna be like, commercially accepted, or accepted by the masses, because that was the point – people who thought like me were outsiders.”
Taylor Swift’s “White Horse,” a track from her new album Fearless that was featured on the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy is doing great.
The soulful song will debut at #13 on Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 singles chart this week, which will give her the 6th Top 20 debut of 2008 breaking the all-time Billlboard record for the number of Top 20 debuts in a calendar year by any artist!
The previous record was five Top 20 debuts this year and that was held by her ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas and his brothers.
Taylor’s other five songs that made the Top 20 include “Change”, “Fearless”, “You’re Not Sorry”, “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story”.
Fearless also sold 592,304 units in its first week of sales (her last album sold 3.5 million).
In comparison, The Jonas Brothers sold over 525,000 units of their latest album, A Little Bit Longer (their last album sold 1.5 million).
Old school Aussie rockers AC/DC are now the second biggest sales debut artists of the year, with 784,000 copies of their newest release Black Ice selling this past week.
This week AC/DC’s “Black Ice” managed to push the soundtrack of High School Musical 3 from the top slot as they only sold 297,000 copies of the soundtrack. The film grossed $42 million in its opening weekend, and the disc, like most soundtracks, will more than likely see a sales spike the week that the soundtrack is available simultaneous with the film being in theaters.
What is interesting to note is that AC/DC won’t release their stuff to iTunes or Napster, they only released it at Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and AC/DC’s website so people can’t download it… yet the results are in, and look at how many CD’s they sold with such a limited release.
Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III currently holds 2008’s Number 1 spot for the year with 1 million copies selling in a week.
Lil Wayne is shown here holding up his Lyricist of the Year award during the BET Hip Hop Awards ‘08, this past Saturday in Atlanta. Ever the professional, he made sure he left in plenty of time to make the hearing for his weapons case in New York today.
A cop testified last month she boarded Lil Wayne’s bus after a concert because she smelled marijuana. She said that while on the bus she saw him try to hide a gun.
His defense attorney Stacey Richman wants the charges dismissed. She says police falsely claimed they smelled marijuana so they could illegally board the bus.
TMZ who had a staff member present in the court room reported an amusing snippet of detail:
” Our guy in the courtroom says everyone got an impromptu Marijuana 101 lesson in the process.
The Weez’s assistant was up on the stand today and under blunt questioning from the DA, explained in great detail how pot is “something we always have” on the tour bus. Wayne’s bud also said the star only smokes “dro” — which, as the assistant explained, is short for “hyDROponically grown” weed (i.e., the good s**t). The court was, we’re told, buzzing.
Not everyone was so stoked – our spy says Wayne sat, head in hands, watching his lawyer battle to get the case skunked.”
Katy Perry sang the song that has made her famous at the MTV Latin Awards last night and finished off her performance by jumping into a huge cake. When she tried to leave the stage, and she did try she kept slipping and falling with her a** kissing the floor.
She was very playful and fun and clearly had a sense of humor about it. Unlike Beyonce, who had this happened to her probably would ask security to confiscate everyone’s cell phones and cameras to prevent it being linked to YouTube!
Just read this latest blog entry by Taylor Swift who was recently dumped (by phon) by her ex, Joe Jonas. At the end she says she’s just sitting around eating cool whip and trying to think of things to do with her time… kind of sad isn’t it? I also found it interesting that she was listening to Kelly Clarkson’s song called Low which is about someone doing something low. I wonder if she was thinking that his breaking up over the phone because his “people” told him it was what was best for his career being one of the lowest things to do. Then again, he is still a child and that is what children do. A man would have broken it off face to face.

AMA’s and life.
Hey guys!
I’m so excited, you got me nominated for an American Music Award this year!! I’m nominated in the “Favorite Female Country” category. Thank you so much for making that happen for me again this year!! It’ll be so cool to go to the AMA’s again. I’m performing, and I have so many ideas that we’re working out for the performance. And hey, I’ve never won an AMA before…….. Maybe this year? It’s completely up to you, because it’s fan-voted. (yesssss) I think you have to login and stuff to vote, but it would make me soo happy if you did. This is the link: http://abc.go.com/amavote/index?pn=index&cateId=144475
In other news, I just got back from a 5 show run on the road. Now I’m sitting in my kitchen..on the counter. Eating cool whip. And trying to think of things to do with my free time. Other than talking to my cat and making playlists of sad songs. Sad songs are awesome, by the way. I’m also editing a new video, so expect that to be up here in a few days. Tomorrow I do more album media preparation/interviews/taped performances/blahblahblahh for album release week. Basically what you do around an album release is you start taping things way in advance, so they can air on TV when the album comes out. So we’ve been doing all of that for months. Then my best friend, Abigail, is coming in from college (she’s too far away. I’m trying to convince her this whole college thing needs to work around our friendship and not be so time consuming.) Then this weekend, we play in Nashville with Rascal Flatts. And every day, my album is closer to being OUT. Yesssss.
I love you so much for your comments. Thank you for saying nice things to me. You have no idea how much that really, really can make my day. You’re what makes me smile.
