Kate Hudson put a new twist on baby bump stakes and celebrity weight gain.

She explained she was quitting cigarettes when media seized on her fuller figure and started the baby bump wager.

“Quitting meant eating more. Then, there were rumours in the press saying I was pregnant. Later somebody said, ‘When did you quit smoking?’ And I was like, ‘Right about the time everybody thought I was pregnant.’”

The experience made her miserable, she said. The actress most known for Almost Famous had to deny that she was expecting a baby with her new lover Alex Rodriguez. Hudson was just this week seen rooting for the baseball star at a Yankees game with her stepfather Kurt Russell.
