Actor Alec Baldwin has no plans to challenge Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman in the 2012 election, his spokesman said.

Baldwin wants independent Lieberman to stay in office because there are so few moderate Republicans in the Senate, said Matthew Hiltzik.

Lieberman was re-elected in 2006 as an independent after he lost the Democratic primary. Baldwin was earlier quoted in Playboy magazine saying he would love to run against Lieberman. But Hiltzik says the 30 Rock star has no plans to move to Connecticut.

Baldwin’s younger brother Stephen said last week that Alec is serious about politics. Lieberman said on CNN he respects Baldwin as an actor but dared him to “make my day” with a Senate challenge
