Hollywood star Johnny Depp has been offered a role in new fantasy movie Snow White and the Huntsman. Producer Joe Roth has reportedly offered the part to the actor after the pair worked together on Alice in Wonderland. The revisionist take on the classic fairytale marks the feature directorial debut of acclaimed British commercials director Rupert Sanders. The story features an expanded role for the huntsman, who in the original story lets Snow White go after being ordered to kill her in the woods. But in the new film, the huntsman is haunted by a white wolf that killed his wife. He’ll also be chained to Snow White for part of the live-action movie as the duo make their escape from a pair of bounty hunters. The huntsman then serves as a mentor who teaches the teenage Snow White how to fight against her evil stepmother, Ravenna.
In her first interview after giving birth to twin boys, Celine Dion has shared that she has yet to name the new arrivals. The fact is, she just has too many names to choose from. The pop singer admits that she has read nearly “15,000 names and nothing has stuck. Because [elder son] René-Charles goes to school in the United States, he’s suggested English first names. My mother, on the other hand, has been hinting about very French first names and we’re going a little bit crazy trying to decide.” I say go with a French name. Something suave, sweet and unique would definitely make those twins more perfect than they already are.
It seems that the denizens from the UK have declared Cheryl Cole the nation’s sweetheart, but the singer isn’t too happy with the title. This is what Cheryl Cole said on the matter: ‘I cringe. I cringe. It’s cringeworthy. I can’t take that on board. If I took all of that on board, I’d go crazy. If it took that on board, and then the negative stuff on board, where would I be? The first thing I ever say to my acts, as soon as I put them through Judges’ Houses is, do not read the newspapers or the internet or magazines. And every single time, they do. It’s so much easier to say than do, but I’m not just saying it for the sake of it. I’m talking from experience, you know?’’ Well now, if that’s the case, then it begs the question: why move to the US of all places? If Cheryl Cole wants to just get away from the publicity, that’s the worst place she can go.
Actor Ben Stiller wants to get Tom Cruise on board for a new Les Grossman movie. The 44-year-old star said he’d love Cruise, 48, to take on the Tropic Thunder role once again for a spin-off flick. Cruise dressed as the character for a stint at the MTV Movie Awards earlier this year. Speaking to MTV News, Stiller said: “Les Grossman is notoriously difficult to negotiate with, so we’re right now negotiating with him because he wants to play himself in the film. “And he’s kind of a bully, and he’s very argumentative, and he’s a little bit abusive.” He added: “I want to try to get Tom Cruise to play him. So if I can get Tom Cruise, who’s interested to play him, if Les will agree not to play himself, then it looks like it could be coming together. A script is being written now.”
Harry Potter star Emma Watson didn’t hold back with the eyeliner as she channelled the Amy Winehouse look for the cover of Australia’s Girlfriend magazine. In an interview with the mag, Emma, 20, joked that she would become a “hermit” after the final Harry Potter movie Deathly Hallows is released in its second part next year. Speaking more seriously, she said she wants to do a musical film, a period drama and smaller, independent films post-Harry. Talking about her fashion sense, she also said, “You have to love what you wear. I think that’s important. “I like things that are original. For casual stuff, I’ll wear Zara, Gap. Top Shop, Agnes B. “I like to mix and match more cheap stuff with more expensive things. I think vintage is great as well.”
Cheryl Cole performed her latest single ‘Promise This’ on last weekend’s X Factor and it seems that all her Girls Aloud band mates were on hand to show their support as a picture of the group backstage has made it on the internet. However, noticeably missing is one Nadine Coyle. I suppose it’s just like anyone else in a work environment. You don’t have to like everyone you work with so long as you can get the job done and still be civil. Maybe Nadine should just bite her tongue, be civil and get the job done with the rest of the professionals in her band.
Portia DeGeneres has revealed that it was the shame of being a lesbian that cause her anorexia whilst filming Ally McBeal. The Aussie actress, who weighed just 40kg (90lbs) at the height of her illness, is married to chat show host Ellen DeGeneres. But back in the days of playing Nell Porter in the US TV series, 37-year-old Portia was desperate to keep her sexuality a secret from the public. In an interview with The Australian Women’s Weekly magazine, she has told how “It took a long, long time for me to think I had a problem. “I was around 90 pounds and I remember feeling very afraid of food every night. I didn’t want to walk past pizza restaurants because that would make me remember what it was like to eat pizza, and I was truly afraid that I was going to be overcome with the urge to binge.” Talking about how she fell for Ellen, Portia, who was born in Melbourne, said it happened at a photoshoot in Hollywood. “My knees went weak and I felt like I was shot through the heart with an arrow,” she said. Portia said they didn’t get together at that time because she was still not comfortable to publicly reveal her sexuality. “We both really, really liked each other and there was definitely a lot of chemistry there, but it was a ridiculous thought for me to be closeted and terrified of being discovered, and then date the most famous lesbian in the world.” The pair finally got together in December 2004.
It seems that the singing teen sensation is beginning to realize the amount of power he possesses due to his signing and his publicity. This is what Justin Bieber had to say on the matter: “I think that I’m pretty powerful, I guess. I think that being powerful you have to do something good with that power. We’re helping build schools, we’ve already built fifteen with the charity Pencils for Promise. We just like the fact that young people can help out young people.” It’s a very good thing that Justin Bieber has chosen the Spiderman approach to all of this. Hopefully he won’t turn into Venom along the way.
Hangover 2 director Todd Phillips has spoken out about axing Mel Gibson from the film. Phillips told Entertainment Tonight: “He’s one of our finest actors and, quite honestly, one of our finest directors, but The Hangover 2 [cast] is a family and as much as I loved the idea, a lot of people didn’t. “I didn’t want anything to come in between that family.” The 54-year-old Lethal Weapon star was originally offered a cameo as a tattoo artist in the flick, but he was replaced by Liam Neeson after other actors in the movie protested that they did not want to appear alongside him. The decision to drop Gibson comes after he was allegedly caught on tape threatening his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, who has accused him of assaulting her.
Even though Cheryl Cole’s name has been linked to the US version of X Factor for months now, sources say that Fox has their eyes on someone else. A source said “The Fox executives are totally against Cheryl joining the panel. They’re saying that together with her accent being difficult to understand, and nobody knowing who she is, she doesn’t have the star qualities to draw in an audience.” So who do they want to be part of the panel? None other than pop diva extraordinaire Mariah Carey! Insiders say that the singer is currently in negotiations to join the panel alongside Simon Cowell and Pussycat Dolls front woman Nicole Scherzinger. A source said “Mariah Carey’s people say she’s fully behind the idea and they’re very interested in taking talks further. Mariah has already had the initial meeting with Fox, so she will more than likely take the spot Simon wanted for Cheryl. While Simon may want Cheryl, he understands Fox’s insistence that he delivers a strong panel to bring viewers, and therefore advertising, in and make as much money as they can.”
