Simon Cowell was proposed to by a fan at the X-Factor auditions.

A fan went to the front of the stage at the Manchester leg of the auditions and asked the 50-year-old to marry him.

British newspaper the Daily Star has reported that the woman asking for Cowell’s hand in marriage goes by the name of Amanda Smith, 40.

She held up a banner saying, “Marry me instead Simon.”

The audience supposedly went wild when Smith got down on one knee and said: “I know you’ve got a gorgeous fiancée, but will you take my hand in marriage?”

The X-Factor judge is currently engaged to make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy.

In response, Simon said: “I don’t want to be shallow here, so give me 48 hours to respond please.”

Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger is standing in for an ill Cheryl Cole.

It has been reported that Cowell keeps calling Nicole ‘Cheryl’ by accident.
