Penelope Cruz has revealed she knew she was famous when a stranger screamed ‘whore’ at her in the street.
‘Somebody passed by with a car and screamed “I love you” and 10 seconds later, somebody else passed by and said “whore”,’ she laughed.
‘Then I thought, “Okay, I think I understand about the contradictions and the love-hate relationship – the dynamic – that comes with being famous” or whatever you want to call it.’
Cruz, 35, said people began recognising her after she made debut movie Jamon Jamon, which also starred Javier Bardem.
‘After things changed and I was able to make this my way of living, to be able to live from this job – from acting,’ she told Ellen DeGeneres.
‘I understood the change one day when I was taking a walk in the street with my father and the two very extreme things happened.’
Cruz also spoke about her role in the forthcoming sequel to the Sex and the City movie.
‘I just wanted to be on that set because I’m a very big fan of the show, of the movie and of Sarah Jessica,’ she said. ‘But I don’t play myself, I play a banker.
‘I can’t really talk about it. They really don’t want me to say anything about what goes on in that scene. It’s a scene with Carrie and Mr Big.’

Viggo Mortenson, 51, allowed his experience of fatherhood to inform his upcoming role in an on-screen tale adapted from Cormac McCarthy’s The Road.
Mortenson, who has played some risky characters, said that he naturally filled the role of the father trying to protect his son: “I think he [the father] has an idea of what he wants to do vaguely – he wants to get to the coast, he wants to stay alive, and keep the boy alive.
“In fact, I think it’s caring for the boy that on the one hand that keeps him alive longer than he would have lived otherwise, but on the other hand, it’s what causes him to make certain mistakes, not trust other people, be unkind, really cruel in a way out of wanting to protect the boy.
“He justifies that, and I think in a way what I could see, especially watching it a second time, was [that] I compared it to not just what individuals do when we’re up against it and can be pretty aggressive and defensive, but what societies do sometimes, or gangs or neighbourhoods or countries.”
The father in the intense character study of the same title as the book has to account to his son for the territorial aggression he feels, Mortenson said.

Lindsay Lohan’s father has found himself at the centre of a fake suicide drama.
Michael Lohan was forced to deny claims he was planning to kill himself after an impostor used social networking website Twitter to send a series of messages supposedly from him.
One read: “Fiance just left me. My whole family hates me.
“I spent Thanksgiving with my Mom. I just can’t do any of this any more.”
Another message posted soon afterwards read: “The death of my father left me in a black hole.
“IDK [I don't know] what to do.”
Then another read: “Heading to the Brooklyn Bridge.”
His final message, addressed to daughter Lindsay, said: “Love you. Bye.”
But in an email to US media website Gawker.com, Lohan wrote: “This is not not not me.
“I do not have and never had a twitter [sic] and twitter’s [sic] corporate office confirms that. My lawyers are investigating.”
Lohan has faced criticism in recent weeks for releasing taped phone conversations he had with Lindsay’s mum, Dina, to US media outlets. It has been suggested that he could be jailed for the leaked audio. The former convict is estranged from the Mean Girls starlet.

American actress Meg Ryan, of such romantic comedies as Sleepless In Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, has a thing for the Aussie male.
She is reportedly in a new relationship with former Nip/Tuck star Julian McMahon. McMahon, 41, is the son of a former Australian prime minister, the late Sir Billy McMahon. His mother, Lady Sonia, is a super glamorous blonde Sydney socialite.
Ryan, 48, was once linked to Russell Crowe while she was still married to actor Dennis Quaid.
An Australian women’s weekly featured photos of Ryan and McMahon having long, cosy dinners and holding hands in Los Angeles. McMahon is two-times divorced and has a steady girlfriend, Kelly Paniagua who was seen travelling in Australia with him in August.

Twilight star Taylor Lautner got fruity on a US chat show – by catching grapes in his mouth.
The 17-year-old actor demonstrated a game he plays with co-star Kristen Stewart during an appearance on Conan O’ Brien’s show.
When the host threw grapes high in the air, Taylor Lautner caught every one. He grinned and cheered as he successfully caught three out of three.
Lautner, who plays Jacob Black in Twilight and sequel New Moon, also spoke about his sudden rise to fame – and experiences with fans of the film.
He admitted feeling terrified during a press event in Brazil, when 2,000 girls broke into a hotel.
“One day Kristen and I were doing interviews on the second floor of our hotel, and all of a sudden our security guards rushed into the room, they locked the doors all around us,” he said.
“We were like: ‘What’s happening”? They came up to us and said: ‘OK, 2,000 girls just rushed into the lobby. They somehow got past hotel security and somehow they know you’re up in this room and they’re on their way up’. That’s the only time I have actually felt in danger’.”
Lautner explained: “Apparently there were flex cuffs on the doors, the 2,000 were outside the doors and all of a sudden they start shaking the doors… and bust into the lobby.
“Kristen and I were talking afterwards and we were saying: ‘Let’s just say they get into this room. What are they going to do? What do they want from us? Are they going to rip us apart? What’s going to happen?’”
But Lautner explained it is not just the younger fans who get a little over-excited. ‘Twilight Mums’ are just as bad.
“The Twilight Moms are very intense, very passionate,” he laughed.
“One Mom was at a store and stole a cardboard cut out of myself – a lifesize cardboard cut out.
“She grabbed it and was just running down the mall. Security were running after her and she was just getting out of the door.”
New Moon smashed box office records when it opened last week.

Retiring talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has set her sights on a steamy new project.
Oprah’s production company is developing a new TV series about a sexually curious Los Angeles housewife.
The HBO series is centered on a married woman who leaves her husband and children to live out her wildest sexual fantasies, according to US reports.
The news comes just days after Oprah announced she is quitting her famed talk show in 2011 after 25 years to focus on new projects with Harpo Productions.
Erin Cressida Wilson, who wrote the steamy Maggie Gyllenhaal movie Secretary, is writing the unnamed project.
“It’s a very erotic mystery about a woman and her secret desires that are, in fact, rather pure,” said Wilson.
“She acts out in pretty extraordinary ways. It’s all about an unfolding mystery.”

Hollywood star and fashionista Melissa George has invented a device that shortens the trouser leg.
George, 33, of Grey’s Anatomy, and her business partner Kara Harshbarger came up with the snap hem, a plastic device called Hemming My Way, to stop their long pants dragging on the streets of New York.
Harshbarger says: “One day over coffee, Melissa shared her idea for an invention. She had just been to New York City and was annoyed by a problem familiar to all women: her long hem dragging up and down the Big Apple sidewalks. This was 2008: enough is enough! So we brainstormed, drank more coffee, brainstormed, got the jitters, and wondered if we were out of our minds – what did we know about inventing?
She continued: “Melissa stars in movies and Kara has made one. Maybe it was the caffeine, or maybe it was the love of a challenge that had us chomping at the bit. We formed Karamel Productions and dove into the world of plastics, adhesives, manufacturing and sales. Like any new venture, the road is littered with potholes, but we’ve been dedicated to the end goal: when stepping over those holes, we refuse to let our hems drag on the ground!”
George will next week launch a new fashion hub in Melbourne at a celeb-studded mega-party.

Time is running out for one of the Kardashian sisters’ key career goals – getting on the Oprah Winfrey show.
The celebrity sisters engaged in a serious Twitter rap about the problem of a retiring Oprah and a blooming Kardashian empire. Kim tweeted: My goal in life is to go on the Oprah Winfrey Show, we need 2 plan & plot! How can the Kardashian sister get on Oprah????
To which Khloe tweeted: go to africa for a few weeks and get lost adopting a baby. Kourt and I will come and find you! Africa + adopting= Oprah
To which Kim then tweeted: I have no problem getting lost in Africa, but really adopt? Can’t I just steal Kourt’s baby? Someone should kidnap us!
The Oprah tweeting continued with Khloe saying: OMG! Forget Africa! I have the perfect plan. Let’s go to Cuba, find Tupac! You have a baby by him!!! Tupac + Babies=Oprah. Then the full horror dawned on Kim: We only have 635 days left until Oprah is off the air, no time to get kidnapped! Can’t U & Lamar just adopt me?

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had a recent movie night with their six children and watched Karate Kid.
Pitt, 45, recently attended an industry screening and Q&A for his movie Inglourious Basterds in Hollywood.
The screening was also attended by 1984 classic Karate Kid director John G Avidsen and when he asked a question, Pitt said: “We just watched Karate Kid with the kids.”
Pitt and girlfriend Jolie, 34, have six children together – Maddox, eight, Pax, five, Zahara, four, Shiloh, three, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16 months.

Star Trek actress Zoe Saldana has said she was inspired by actresses Sigourney Weaver and Angelina Jolie to become the queen of sci-fi.
The 31-year-old played Uhura in this year’s Star Trek movie and will play Neytiri in James Cameron’s upcoming CGI movie Avatar alongside actor Sam Worthington.
Saldana said to Details magazine: “I’ve always gravitated toward the Sigourney Weavers, the Linda Hamiltons, the Angelina Jolies. I just love strong women that are in tune with their bodies – that don’t just use their bodies as sex tools. I’m very dominant – feisty. I’m not a man-hater, just a very proud woman.”
Saldana admitted that she had fun filming motion-capture movie Avatar as it was different to shooting a regular film.
She said: “Motion capture isn’t like shooting. You’re in a suit with all these dots on you, and whatever you do, they get it. If you burp, your character burps. I’d shake my booty, and you’d see my character shaking her booty.”
